(Washington, D.C.) - A Boone County High School teacher was a special guest at the White House Tuesday.
English teacher Kim Shearer was named Kentucky’s 2012 Teacher of the Year in October.
She was among 56 finalist teachers – one from each state, Washington, D.C., four U.S. territories and the Department of Defense Education Activity - to meet with President Obama at a ceremony to name the National Teacher of the Year.
That honor went to Burbank, California seventh grade teacher Rebecca Mieliwocki.
