District 67 Democrat Candidate Gets Support

Tom Cheek (left) and State Rep. Randy Frye.

(Aurora, Ind.) - An Aurora resident running for state representative has received the endorsement of the Indiana State AFL-CIO.

Tom Cheek is running as a Democrat against Republican incumbent Randy Frye (R-Greensburg) in House District 67. Cheek received the endorsement from the labor union on April 12.

“With the unrelenting attacks on Indiana's working families, I am focused on restoring balance in our government, jobs, and creating greater economic opportunity for all citizens and to improve the quality of life here in Indiana. I am looking forward to helping working Hoosier families any way that I can,” Cheek said in a statement about the endorsement.

Frye, a union member and retired Indianapolis firefighters, voted in favor of a bill making Indiana the first right to work state in the Midwest. He co-authored the bill.

At a Dearborn County Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week, Frye said he believes good unions like his will be fine in a new right to work state. Weak unions will get stronger or they’ll disappear, he said.

Neither candidate faces opposition in the May 8 party primary election.
