(Versailles, Ind.) – The Ripley County Sheriff’s Office is offering to take your unused prescription pills.
The sheriff’s office is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 4th Nationwide Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 28.
Deputies will accept the pills at the sheriff’s headquarters in Versailles from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. that day. They ask that no sharp objects are included.
Last October, Americans nationwide turned in over 188.5 tons of prescription drugs at 5,327 sites.
Unused medications that linger in a home can pose a not easily seen threat.
Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. More Americans currently abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens, and heroin combined, according to the 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
