(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - Voter turnout could be on the lighter side for Indiana’s primary election on Tuesday.
Polling places across the state are open until 6:00 p.m. as Hoosiers decide on races for U.S. Senate, county council, county commissioner, and some town races.
During the May primary four years ago in 2008 turnout in Dearborn County during the May primary four years ago was abnormally high at about 33 percent. However, voters then may have been motivated by a hotly contested Democrat presidential primary between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
According to the Indianapolis Star, only over 89,100 people statewide had voted early through Friday, the Indiana secretary of state's office said. In the 2008 presidential primary, nearly 185,700 voters cast a ballot early.
Early morning rain could also dampen voters’ willingness to go to the polls, although the National Weather Service expects rain to leave the southeast Indiana area by noon.
