Friend Of Murder Victim Remains Hospitalized

(Aurora, Ind.) - A Florence man attempted suicide when he was about to be question about the murder of Aurora resident Leigh Jennings.

The 67-year-old Jennings was found dead in her home on Aspen Ridge Road last Thursday.

Charles Robert “Steve” Stephenson knew Jennings because she had cut his hair at the Florence barber shop where she worked, sources told various media outlets Tuesday.

Stephenson’s home on Old Stephenson Mill Road in Florence was searched by Indiana State Police detectives last weekend with assistance from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Investigators had gone to Stephenson’s home again Monday where they discovered that he had attempted suicide before they arrived.

Stephenson remained at St. Elizabeth Hospital Tuesday night, the newspaper reported Wednesday.

Charles Stephenson is a nephew of Bill and Peggy Stephenson, the 74-year-old Florence couple whose murders in their Florence home in May 2011 remain unsolved.

Indiana State Police have not named Charles Stephenson a suspect in Jennings’ death. He was previously questioned by police following his aunt and uncle’s murders.
