(Milan, Ind.) - Basketball fans will plead either for or against a single class high school basketball tournament Tuesday in Milan.
Indiana High School Athletic Association commissioner Bobby Cox and State Senator Mike Delph have been holding town hall meetings across the state to gauge the interest from fans, players, and coaches on returning to single class basketball.
The meeting is at the Milan High School gym at 7:00 p.m.
Many pro-single class purists point to Milan’s legendary 1954 state championship team as an example in their argument for reverting back to Indiana’s once unique tournament.
The IHSAA converted to today’s current four-class tournament grouping schools into classes based on their enrollment in 1998.
The organization entertained the idea of restoring the single-class tournament in 2005, but only 36 of 341 high school principals polled favored going back.
