Wayne W. Delong
(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - A West Harrison man gets 25 years in prison for manufacturing methamphetamine and nearly destroying his girlfriend’s home.
Wayne Delong was given the sentence on Friday in Dearborn Superior Court I Judge Jonathan Cleary following a lengthy evidentiary hearing, said Dearborn-Ohio County Prosecutor Aaron Negangard.
Delong, 43, cooked the meth in the Pin Hook Road home of his girlfriend, Shawn Henry, on multiple occasions in 2011. Henry, 42, is a co-defendant in the case.
Indiana State Police Trooper Jeremy Franklin led the investigation. He testified that there had been an obvious fire in the area of the meth lab, which Delong admitted had occurred as he was learning how to make the dangerous drug.
Franklin said Delong also admitted to asking Henry’s daughter to purchase pseudoephedrine – a key ingredient in meth – “but only after she turned 18.”
Delong was a drug addict. He testified that he had been spending up to $200 weekly on his habit and learned to cook meth after he could no longer afford to buy from others.
Negangard was represented at the hearing by Deputy Prosecutor Joe Kisor. The prosecutor noted the investigation by Franklin and other Indiana State Police officers was extremely thorough and professional.
“Our community must stand firm against the dangers of Methamphetamine abuse and manufacture,” Negangard said.
