S. Ripley Schools Consider Drug Testing Student

(Versailles, Ind.) – South Ripley Community Schools may use drug testing as a deterrent for students involved in substance abuse.

A public meeting begins at 5:30 Tuesday evening at the South Ripley High School cafeteria as the school district in Versailles considers implementing two policies.

One policy would allow for random tests of any high school student who drives to school or participates in extra-curricular activities. Courts have previously upheld schools’ rights to test those students, but not all students.

Another policy would allow for testing of students based on reasonable suspicion.

School representatives will be on hand to answer the public’s questions about the policies.

South Ripley Schools also have an online survey where individuals can give their input on the issue. The survey is available at http://www.sripley.k12.in.us and clicking on the “Student Drug Testing Survey” on the left.
