A Virginia woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 71/75 near the Richwood exit in Boone County Thursday.
Boone deputies say a 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Hemendra Patel, 28, of Louisville, had stopped in the northbound lanes to avoid a large piece of tire tread which had just come off a tractor trailer at about 10:45 a.m.
Rachel Greba, 20, of Verona, was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang coming up behind the Camry. She was unable to stop or avoid crashing into the rear of Patel’s vehicle.
A rear seat passenger in the Camry, Sonali Sisodia, 30, of Herndon, Virginia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sisodia’s son, Aadidy Thakur, 4, who was in a child seat in the rear seat was transported to Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio accompanied by Patel, his uncle.
A front seat passenger, Swati Sisodia, 28 of Louisville, Kentucky, was taken to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Deputies said Thakur and Sisodia’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Greba refused treatment at the scene.
All northbound lanes were initially closed until 11:50 a.m. when one lane was opened to ease congestion. The scene was totally cleared at 2:00 p.m.
The crash remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Unit.
Update posted at 1:53 p.m.:
One person is dead and two others are hospitalized after a serious crash on Interstate 71/75 in Boone County.
Just before 11:00 a.m. Thursday, three vehicles were involved in a crash in the northbound lanes near the Richwood exit.
One person died. Aircare helicopters took two others, including a child, to Cincinnati hospitals.
The names and conditions of the victims have not been released.
Northbound I-71/75 was completely closed for about an hour following the crash. One lane reopened at noon.

(Richwood, Ky.) - Northbound Interstate 71/75 had to be closed in Boone County following a serious crash Thursday morning.
The three-vehicle accident happened just before 11:00 near the Richwood exit.
Aircare was sent to the scene. Some of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening.
One crash victim had to be extricated from a vehicle.
One land of the highway reopened after the aircare helicopter had left the scene.
